Wear and tear is natural, and usually after one disk fails, it is probably a good idea to remain cautious, as all other HDDs or SSDs may already have their days numbered.


Connection and communication with other devices is done through an Integrated Drive Electronics/Advanced Technology Attachment (IDE/ATA) input, Parallel ATA (PATA), Serial ATA (SATA) I, II, and III, Serial Storage Architecture (SSA), Storage Area Network (SAN), Statistical Analysis System (SAS), all of which are susceptible to breaking, and thus data loss can occur.

Power Outage

When there is a power outage, the RAID is susceptible to file corruption and, in some cases, burnout of the RAID controller.

Although it is a concept still widely used in companies, it is not recommended to think that data stored on RAID replaces traditional data backup.


Make sure your server or storage is in an appropriate location that is air-conditioned and secure, so that natural wear and tear doesn’t prematurely damage the hardware associated with RAID.

  • Unsuccessful attempt in the process of inserting new disks into an existing array.

Considering that the data stored on a server or storage is sensitive to the company, we have created a dedicated team 24/7/365 to meet demands like these, so the response time can be greatly optimized.

The first step is the advanced diagnosis, which can take between 4 to 6 hours. Once the advanced diagnosis is finished, and data recovery is possible, the average time to complete the project can take between 8h and 24h.

If you can’t ship the server or storage as a whole, we strongly recommend that you identify the disks and also pack them using anti-static plastic and then bubble wrap, to safely pack the devices involved in the data recovery process.

Depending on the nature of the problem related to the defective disks, yes, it is possible to recover data in a scenario like the one above, because we are technically able to clone the unstable disks and consequently remount the array in order to access the data contained in the logical volume.

SAS disks are usually more reliable compared to SATA disks, so for critical environments we recommend using SAS disks, which can be either 10K RPM or 15K RPM disks. The higher the RPM of the disk, the more performant the disk will be.

Yes, this concept is called Hot Spare disk and its function is to wait until an active disk fails, so that the backup disk can take its place, with the sole purpose of keeping the data security level at a reasonable level. It is recommended to replace the failed disk within 72 hours.

Currently we have three (3) statuses:

  • Optimal: When all disks in the array are online;
  • Degraded: When one of the disks in the array is offline;
  • Offline: When two or more disks in the array are not being recognized.

Technically it is possible, but in practice it is hardly recommended, because all disks will be leveled by the lowest speed, so as not to compromise the synchronism of the data allocated in the RAID.

It will depend a lot on the behavior of the orange led, because if it is blinking, it means that the disk is trying to do a rebuild, if the led is on steadily, it means that the disk has some kind of defect, which requires an emergency replacement to avoid data loss.

In many cases it is possible to recover data from a RAID remotely, but it is necessary to first evaluate if your project is eligible for this modality, because there are several factors analyzed for this decision, such as type of problem in the disks, operating system and RAID level configuration.
